About Us

The Binmaley Association of Southern California (BASC), is a non-profit organization with the purpose of providing community services, raising funds for various projects and our own scholarship program in our beloved town of Binmaley, Pangasinan, Philippines.

The founder of this association is Mr. Bart Garcia, a native of Brgy. Camaley who is currently living in Carson, California, USA.

Brief History of Binmaley

Binmaley was founded in 1590. Its name is derived from Pangasinan: "Bin" which means "nanmaliw", "became" or "converted into", "maley" meaning "baley" or "town". Binmaley is situated in the delta area of Agno River, between Lingayen (capital of Pangasinan) and Dagupan City (a commercial center). Its area is 6,120 hectares, or 1.14% of the entire land area of Pangasinan. Ninety six percent of families in Binmaley speak Pangasinan in their homes. Other languages spoken are Ilocano and Tagalog.

Fishing is the primary source of income in Binmaley. Two-thirds of the population are engaged in fishing, and more than half of its land area is used as fishponds. Binmaley is the "Bangus Queen of the Philippines". Cultivated alongside bangus are malaga or sun fish, and many other types of fish. Prawn growing is Binmaley's promising new industry, and is intensively pursued even by the entrepreneurs outside the town.

Binmaley is home to many other types of commerce. Poultry-raising and piggery have made Binmaley the top producer in these fields of agri-business since the early 1970's. Furniture-making is gaining a well-known reputation in Manila and abroad. Still developing under presents standards, pottery is proving to have economic prospects for expansion in Parayao, Pallas and Papagueyan. Other potential businesses include rubber product from used vehicle tires and fan-making. Binmaley is made up of 33 barrios or barangays, and its population continues to grow.
